About Laurence Pithie

Laurence Pithie was the first greenkeeper to attain BIGGA’s Master Greenkeeper Certificate in 1991 and is also a recipient of both Greenkeeper and Groundsman of the Year in 1984 and 1988 respectively.

He has served the industry for 40 years, working at numerous courses throughout the UK, first starting in 1970 as an apprentice greenkeeper at Bruntsfield Links Golf Club in Edinburgh. From 1992 to 2009, he was responsible for managing multi-sites, first with a construction company, then nearly 16 years with American Golf & Crown Golf respectively.

Over the last few years, Laurence has hosted a number of training workshops to help both Course Managers and General Managers in the various aspects of managing golf courses. More recently, Laurence has written two short books on ‘Managing Golf Courses More Effectively’ and ‘Seasonal Requirements for Golf Course Management’. A comprehensive Golf Course Maintenance Manual has also been written by Laurence and produced by The English Golf Union.

Since 2008, he has been presenting annual workshops at Harrogate as well as ones in Hertogenbosch, Holland and in Kobe, Japan. He has regularly given presentations at International Conferences in Scotland, Gothenburg, Slovakia, Amsterdam & Berlin, the latter two at the European Golf Business Conference as well as for BIGGA at numerous local and regional seminars.
